American Soars In Women’s Basketball Exhibition

Eagles overpower the M.I. Express, 82-61

Senior Hollie Steinman recorded 18 points and eight rebounds in the Eagles exhibition win over the M.I. Express.

WASHINGTON -- The 2001-02 American University women’s basketball team made an impressive debut in its exhibition game on Sunday, overpowering the visiting M.I. Express, 82-61. In a game plagued with 61 turnovers, the Eagles shot 42 percent from the floor in the win to the Express’ mark of 27.3.

All-Patriot League preseason selection Hollie Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass./Taconic) came away with 18 points and eight rebounds in the game while sophomore teammate Kaitlin Schuyler (Baltimiore, Md./Mercy) recorded a team-high 19 points, four assists and four steals.

Freshman Chanel Hunt (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft) celebrated a double-double for the Eagles with 14 points and 10 boards.

American prepares for its final exhibition game of the season on Nov. 11 against the N.Y. Gazelles at 4:30 in Bender Arena. The Eagles officially open their inaugural season in the Patriot League by hosting Marshall in the AU Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 16.
