Carmichael's Four Goals Lead Women's Lacrosse Past Towson
Freshman leads Eagles to 10-6 win in 2002 debut

Freshman Lindsey Carmichael made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut with four goals in the Eagles' win over Towson.

TOWSON, Md. -- Freshman Lindsey Carmichael (Centerport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) scored a game-high four goals to lead American (1-0) to a 10-6 victory over Towson
(0-1) on Wednesday in Minnegan Stadium. The win was the first for the Eagles in their four-game series with the Tigers.

American started off the scoring just three minutes into the game when sophomore Linsday Cartin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored the first of her two goals off a feed from sophomore Katy Zaweski (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfield). Towson responded with three unanswered goals by Kristyn Krastel, Melissa Garner and Caitlin Marshall to take a 3-1 lead.

Erin Cayea added another goal for Towson with 10:06 left in the first half but the Eagles game storming back. A Carmichael goal with five minutes left off a pass from Adele Fenwick (Chevy Chase, Md./Fenwick) tied the contest at 4-4 and American was back in the game. Carmichael added another tally and junior Nadia Harmsen (Buzzards Bay, Mass./Tabor Academy) found the back of the net to give American a 5-4 lead at the break.

Carmichael opened the scoring in the second half with 23 minutes to play to give American a 6-4 lead to work with. But the Tigers tied came back to tie the contest at 6-6 with 17:25 left to play off goals from Martha Dwyer and Kat Brady.

The Eagles gained momentum in the remaining 10 minutes of the game with a four-goal run to seal the victory.

Harmsen finished the game with a hat-trick with three goals on three shots for the Eagles while Zaweski picked up two points on two assists.

American returns home to prepare for No. 18, and former CAA rival, Old Dominion on Saturday at 1:00 at Reeves Field.
