American Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Lafayette, 13-5
Cartin scores one goal, has two assists in loss

Lindsay Cartin had a goal and two assists in the Eagles' loss to Lafayette.

EASTON, Pa. — The American University women’s lacrosse team dropped its first Patriot League game of the season today to Lafayette 13-5. Sophomore Lindsay Cartin (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored one goal and added two assists in the loss. Nicole McCarthy (Flourtown, Pa./Springfield) added a goal and an assist as well. American falls to 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in Patriot League play while Lafayette moves to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

The Eagles fell behind early to Lafayette as Cristin McGuinn scored three goals in the first four minutes of the game. American responded as McCarthy scored her seventh goal of the season. Lafayette’s Jennifer Stone scored the first of her game-high four goals to up the Leopard lead to 4-1. Courtney Bennett (McLean, Va./McLean) scored just over ten minutes into the game to cut the Lafayette lead to two. However, the Leopards responded with three straight goals. Jamie Crean (Bayshore, N.Y./Bay Shore) scored her third goal of the season, but Lafayette scored again to up the lead to 8-3 at halftime.

Cartin scored just under three minutes into the second half to slice the Leopard lead to four before the Leopards reeled off three straight goals. Adele Fenwick (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge) scored on a free position shot to close out the scoring for the Eagles.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Randisi (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) stopped 11 shots for the Eagles. McCarthy, who is third in the nation in ground balls and caused turnovers, had seven ground balls and four caused turnovers in the game. Holly Deland (Chevy Chase, Md./Potomac School) also had six ground balls in the game.

American’s next game is April 3 against Maryland-Baltimore County at Reeves Field.
