American Rolls to 15-5 win Over Mount St. Mary's
Cartin, Fenwick net three goals each to lead Eagles

Lindsay Cartin scored a hat trick in the Eagles 15-5 victory over Mount St. Mary's.

WASHINGTONLindsay Cartin and Adele Fenwick each scored three goals to lead American to a 15-5 win over Mount St. Mary's in women's lacrosse here at Reeves Field on Tuesday afternoon. It was the Eagles' third straight win.

American (8-5) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after just six minutes of play. Fenwick scored twice while Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Nadia Harmsen added a goal early. The Eagles continued their run with another Fenwick score and free position goals by Tara Michael and Cartin.

Mount St. Mary’s (6-9) got on the board with a goal by Lara Steinbraker at the 17:08 mark as Erin Gargan had the first of her three assists on the day. American responded with three unanswered goals before halftime. Harmsen scored her second goal of the game. Lynn Brandon assisted on the other two goals scored by Becky Copeland and Cartin.

The Mount struck first in the second half as Kelly Moran scored at the 8:57 mark to cut the Eagle lead to 9-2. Gina Riitano scored on a free position shot and Laura Repoli scored her eighth goal of the season as American opened a nine-goal lead.

Amy Harris scored on a free position shot for Mount St. Mary’s, but Riitano answered with her second goal of the game. Cartin added her final goal of the contest on a free position shot at the 20:24 mark. Addie Lewis closed the scoring for the Mount at 20:42 off a feed from Gargan. The Eagles added two more goals before the end of the game as Copeland scored her second of the afternoon and Katy Zaweski scored her first career goal.

In addition to her two goals, Riitano added seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. Nicole McCarthy who is second in the nation in ground balls, had seven for the game. Laura Randisi stopped six shots for American while Naomi Campano saved 14 for the Mount.

American will play its final regular-season Patriot League game this Saturday, April 20, when it hosts Lehigh at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the contest, Eagle seniors Holly Deland, Amanda Detterline, and Adele Fenwick will be honored.
