Bucknell Advances to Patriot League Championship With 13-9 Win Over Colgate
Bison upset Raiders to face American for PL Championship

WASHINGTON — Avenging a 9-6 loss in the regular season, the third-seeded Bucknell Bison defeated No. 2 Colgate, 13-9 in the Patriot League Semifinals to advance to the championship match tomorrow against American. Suzanne Raffaele and Meredith Wright each had three goals for Bucknell while Kelly Winning led the Raiders with four goals.

The Bison (8-7) opened an early 2-0 lead over Colgate (10-6) and led 3-1 with just over five minutes into the game. The Raiders then scored the next three goals, grabbing a 4-3 lead just three minutes later. After a Laura Nuss goal, Nuss found Raffaele as Bucknell took a lead it would not relinquish.

Colgate climbed back within one after Winning scored an unassisted goal. The Bison scored three of the last four goals in the half as Raffaele netted two goals. Rebecca Sandler scored for the Raiders with just over eight minutes remaining as Bucknell led, 9-6 at halftime.

The Bison took control in the first five minutes of the second half, scoring three of the first four goals, with Wright netting the final two. Winning scored the final goal of the match with 14:00 remaining, but solid defense by Bucknell kept the Raiders from scoring again as the Bison held on for the win.

Nicole Kallis made 12 saves for Bucknell as Colgate outshot the Bison, 28-21. The Raiders also had 31 ground balls compared to 27 for Bucknell.

Bucknell will play No. 1 seed American tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the Patriot League Championship.
