AU senior anchored defense to win over Villanova

WASHINGTON — American University senior Robyn Mincher (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) became AU’s second Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week this season as announced today by the league office. Mincher had five ground balls and one caused turnover as the Eagles defeated Villanova, 14-7, to clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.
Mincher is one of AU’s top defenders, constantly faced with the task of marking the opponent’s top attackers. The Eagles have held six of their 11 opponents below 10 goals, including four league opponents. Mincher is second on the team with 18 caused turnovers this season while also snagging 26 ground balls. For her career, she is second all-time in caused turnovers with 85 and sixth all-time in ground balls with 108.
The Eagles return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. with a match against Richmond on Reeves Field.
American University, which fields a 19-sport NCAA Division I athletics program featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men, is in its second year of membership in the Patriot League. Since joining the Patriot League, the University has captured league championships in men’s cross country, women’s cross country, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and women’s volleyball, and regular-season titles in men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse.
