American Wrestling Earns Dual Meet Victory, 33-17, Over Delaware State
Hoffer records 106th career win, first place on all-time wins list

WASHINGTON -- American University senior Marc Hoffer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) recorded his 106th career win when he pinned Alex Thomas of Delaware State at 3:32. The pin at 149 lbs. propelled the Eagles to a solid 33-17 defeat of the visiting Hornets. With the win, Hoffer moves into first place on American’s all-time career wins list ahead of Chris Toth (American '90) who had 105 during his American wrestling career.

The Eagles claimed their first dual meet victory this season on the heels of Hoffer’s momentous win. Senior Willie Harris (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) and sophomore Matthew Pelligrino (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) each won by forfeit at 125 lbs. and 133 lbs., respectively. Delaware State sophomore Myron Drayton took 141 lbs. also by forfeit before Hoffer pinned Thomas at 149.

American then took 157 lbs. as sophomore Aviv Bercovicz (Wauside, N.J./Cean Township) defeated Joseph Monegro by a 7-3 decision, then sophomore Mike Reish (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) took 165 by forfeit. At 174, Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Tex./Tacosa) fell, 4-6, to Haneef Lumpkin. Kyle Mason (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), competing at 184, notched American’s second pin of the evening at 4:41 over Sam Johnson.

Richard Foley earned a 17-2 major decision over Adam Montgomery (Belmont, Calif./Junipero Serra) at 197 lbs., and Mario Rinaldi finished up for Delaware State by defeating Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross), 12-8, at heavyweight.

The Eagles move to 1-4 on the season. They will travel to East Stroudsburg this Saturday, Dec. 12, to compete in a quad with East Stroudsburg, Binghamton and the Virginia Military Insititute at 11:00 a.m. American’s next dual meet will be on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at James Madison University.
