Grapplers Close Out Home Schedule With 28-23 Win Over American
Ryan Pollinger
and Willie Harris get wins for the Eagles. LANCASTER, Pa. - Ted Seemuller (Fr., Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) pinned American University's Victor Acquaah-Harrison in four minutes to begin a Diplomat resurgence which would lead the team to a 28-23 win in the final home match of the season. The win would be especially sweet for team captain Bobby Crick (Sr., Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown), forced to watch the final match of the his senior year from the sidelines due to a season-long back injury. Crick would cheer on his team as F&M streaked out to a 9-0 lead behind a decision by Tom Brinzer (So., Verona, PA/Central Catholic) at 174 and a forfeit win by Scott Zimmerman (So., Cinnaminson, NJ/Holy Cross), before back-to-back pins by American's Ryan Pollinger and Jared Hyman would push the Eagles out to a 13-12 margin. However, F&M did not fold as Will Filbert (So., Baltimore, MD/Hill School) jumped out to a 6-1 lead after one period over American's Matt Pellegrino at 125 pounds. Pellegrino would never recover as Filbert added four points in the second and two in the third to record a 13-4 win and put the Diplomats back on top, 13-12. Following a forfeit at 133 to the Eagles' Willie Harris and Seemuller's pin of Harrison at 141, Nate Schy (Fr., Willow Grove, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) would win by forfeit at 149 to push the F&M lead to 25-18. The lead would expand to ten following an Isaiah Hankel (Fr., Newman Lake, WA/Eas Valley Spokane) 8-3 win by decision at 157 pounds over Aviv Bercovicz to clinch the victory. Franklin & Marshall (2-16, 0-8 EIWA) will continue their season on February 23 at local opponent Millersville University of Pennsylvania at 7:30 p.m. The team will then travel to the University of Pennsylvania on March 2-3 for the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships versus Army, Bucknell, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, East Stroudsburg, Harvard, Lehigh, Navy, Penn, Princeton, Rutgers and Syracuse.
