Struggles at Tri-Meet with Old Dominion, Buffalo WASHINGTON -- The American wrestling team struggled today at a tri-meet in Bender Arena, falling 30-15 to Old Dominion and 36-6 to the University of Buffalo. Ranked No. 16 in the nation at 149 lbs. by Intermat, American University senior Marc Hoffer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) added to his all-time career wins record with two wins, one a win by fall. He pinned Brad Alford of Old Dominion at 6:38 for his 117th career win and his ninth pin this season. He also notched a 4-1 decision over Bill Jacoutot of Buffalo. Against Old Dominion, sophomore Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Tex./Tascosa) took 174 lbs. with a pin at 4:03 over John Adams. Senior Willie Harris (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) had the third and final win for the Eagles against the Monarchs, defeating John Starkes in a 30-second rideout after finishing four periods tied at 2-2. Harris sits at an impressive 10-1 in dual meets this season. The Eagles had more trouble against Buffalo, as Hoffers 4-1 decision at 149 lbs. and a 8-1 decision by Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) over Mike Cooper at heavyweight marked the sole wins for American against the Bulls. Old Dominion defeated
Buffalo by a score of 20-15. At 133 lbs., Paul Jimenez had an impressive
win by fall over Brian Sebaaly at 0:50, while heavyweight Derrell Lorthridge
had a 16-4 major decision over Mike Cooper and Jesse Pearce notched a
11-3 major decision over Dave Edwards.
