American Wraps Up Regular Season at Quad Meet
Hoffer, Harris have three wins each on Senior Day

WASHINGTON -- American University senior Marc Hoffer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) competed in his last home meet today as the most decorated wrestler in school history at a quad meet with Bucknell, Eastern Michigan, and the University of Virginia. Hoffer, a captain, had two wins by fall and one by major decision. Senior co-captain Willie Harris (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) also had three wins on Senior Day, including a technical fall over Eastern Michigan’s Josh Gunterman.

The Eagles fell, 37-9, to Virginia in their opening meet. Hoffer defeated Paul Bjorlo at 149 lbs. by fall at 2:58, and Harris had a 10-4 decision over Ryan Stewart at 125 lbs. to close out the scoring for American.

American fared better against Eastern Michigan, as four Eagle wrestlers notched wins although the team fell, 31-16. Hoffer had a 9-1 major decision over Josh Wiles to earn four team points. At 157 lbs., Aviv Bercovicz (Wauside, N.J./Cean Township) had a 3-2 decision over Keon Suggs, Kyle Mason (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had a convincing 14-1 romp over Ed Magrys and Harris notched the technical fall.

The closest contest for the Eagles came against Bucknell, as the meet ended in a 26-26 tie. Hoffer had his second pin of the day at 5:49 over Justin Hartum at 149 lbs., Bercovicz took 157 lbs. by forfeit, Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Tex./Tacosa) had a 11-3 major decision at 174 lbs., heavyweight Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) had another major, winning 14-2 and Harris took 125 lbs. by forfeit.

Today’s quad meet concluded the regualr season for the Eagles, who finish at 4-16-1 in dual meets this season. They will travel to Millersville University this weekend for the Eastern Conference Tournament and the chance to earn a berth in the NCAA tournament.
