American Wrestling Opens 2001-02 Season at West Virginia Open

MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- The American wrestling team participated in its first tournament of the 2001-02 season on Nov. 10 at the West Virginia Open. The Eagles faced opponents from many ECAC participant schools as well as several unattended wrestlers at the event.

Senior captain Marc Hoffer (Sr., Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished as the highest Eagle at the tournament, coming in third place in the 149 weight class. Hoffer defeated Luke Palmaziano from Duke in the first round, Alex Cooper of Ohio University in the second, and Harley Anderson (unattended) by a fall at 5:43 before falling short to JarMarr Billman of Lockhaven. Hoffer then won the GG slot by defeating Adam Smith of Penn State and finished in third place in the 149 division.

The Eagles will compete at the University of Pennsylvania in the Keystone Classic this Sunday, Nov. 18, starting at 1:00 p.m. The team's first dual meet of 2001-02 will be on Thursday, Dec. 6 at home versus local foe George Mason.
