American Competes at Kent State Duals
Hoffer has three pins in three matches

KENT, OHIO -- American University senior Marc Hoffer (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) recorded three pins at the Kent State Duals on Sunday, Dec. 9. American grappled against Kent State, Mercyhurst, and Baldwin-Wallace in the four-way competition.

Wrestling at 149 lbs., Hoffer recorded his quickest pin of the day against Joe Charlton of Kent State at 3:30. He pinned Mercyhurst's Jake Squire at 4:02 and Bob Maygar of Baldwin-Wallace at 5:20. Hoffer's pin against Charlton resulted in American's only points against Kent State on the day, as they fell, 45-6, to the Golden Flash.

The Eagles had their best outing on the day against Baldwin-Wallace, earning 18 team points to Baldwin-Wallace's 23. At 157 lbs., Aviv Bercovicz (Wauside, N.J./Cean Township) had a 10-6 decision over Seth Price, while Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Tex./Tacosa) had a 7-2 decision over Matt Poland at 174 lbs., Kyle Mason (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had a 6-3 decision over Brian Tipka at 184 lbs., and Matthew Pelligrino (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) had a 10-4 decision over Steven Wilson at 125 lbs.

Against Mercyhurst, Bercovicz and Baker again had decisions at 165 lbs. and 174 labs, respectively. Combined with Hoffer's pin, the Eagles finished with 13 team points in the Mercyhurst dual.

Hoffer continues to rise in the ranks at 149 lbs. Intermat recently placed him at No. 14 in the country for his weight class and he earned his 100th career win vs. George Mason last Thursday. His current career record sits at 103-27, and he needs only three more wins to move into the top slot on the American wrestling all-time wins list.

The Eagles move to 0-4 in dual meets on the season. They will participate in the Midlands tournament on the weekend of Dec. 28-29. American’s next dual meet will be on Wednesday, Jan. 9, when it hosts Delaware State in Bender Arena at 7:00 p.m.
