Wrestling Falls Short Against Duquesne and Eastern Illinois January 7, 2003
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The American University wrestling team dropped two close meets Tuesday at the Triangular Meet hosted by Duquesne University. Against the Dukes, the Eagles fell 30-19 while Eastern Illinois topped them, 25-19. The same four AU wrestlers recorded wins in both duals as American prepares to face Buffalo on Thursday at 7 p.m. AU, which is 0-9 in dual meets, earned its first win against DU in the heavyweight division when junior Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) won by fall over Matt Doak at 4:05. In the 141-lb. division, freshman Tom Kniezewski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) capped a win by fall over Dean Jacobs at 6:58. Junior Aviv Bercovicz (Ocean, N.J./Ocean City) earned a major decision over Rob Dempsey by a score of 10-2 in the 149-lb. division. The final American points came from junior Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Texas/Tascosa) in the 165-lb. division. Baker recorded a 10-4 decision over Bill Boeh. Against the Panthers, Hyman and Baker both won by forfeit in the heavyweight and 165-lb. divisions, respectively. Kniezewski clinched at 12-4 major decision over Jerod Bruner at 141 lbs.
