Wrestling Falls in Home Opener to Sacred Heart, 27-14
WASHINGTON -- Despite four wins, the American University wrestling team dropped its home opener to Sacred Heart University Sunday afternoon at Bender Arena by a score of 27-14. Capturing wins for the Eagles, who are now 0-1 in dual meets, were Aaron Baker (Amarillo, Texas./Tascosa), Kyle Mason (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) and Tom Kniewzeski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) as the Pioneers recorded six wins including a forfeit at the 197-lb. division. Kniewzeski, a freshman, defeated Michael Messina, 6-4 at the 141-lb. division. Baker secured a major decision over Ronald Wright by a 17-3 margin. Kyle Mason had no trouble putting away Thomas Pereira. The sophomore clinched a major decision by a 13-0 margin. The final American win came at the 275-lb. division where Hyman scrapped for an 8-7 win over John Miller. The Eagles will compete next Sunday, Dec. 8 at Army with the Citadel and Franklin Marshall at 1 p.m.
