AU Falls to Northwestern in Home Opener
Waters and Kniezewski take home only wins of the day

WASHINGTON – Junior Daniel Waters (Laurel, Del./Penn State) and sophomore Tom Kniezewski (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) took home the only two individual victories as the Eagles fell to the Northwestern Wildcats 41-10 at the first meet of the season at Bender Arena.

Kniezewski started things out for the Eagles as he pinned Northwestern’s John Ballard in 2:15 in the 149 weight class. Waters followed suit in the 184 weight class as he defeated Joe Gulotta in a 15-6 decision.

Junior Adam Montgomery (Belmont, Calif./Junípero Serra) was defeated in the 197 weight class by Matt Delgyud with a pin at 2:01, while Jared Hyman (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) was defeated with a 9-5 decision by Scott Johnson in the closest match of the day.

Senior Matt Pelligrino (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold) fell by way of a major decision to John Valez at 125, while Ben Lamson (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) fell to Dan Quintela in a 18-0 major decision.

The Eagle will look to regroup as they next travel to Tempe, Arizona for the Sun Devil Duals on Jan. 4.
