Had a phenomenal season
in 2000-01, earning the highest-ever national ranking by an AU wrestler
in school history ... Amateur Wrestling News (AWN) ranked Hoffer #7 in
their national poll on 12/12/00 and then placed him at #5 on 2/14/01 for
all national wrestlers in the 149 lbs. category.
2000-2001: Competed at the National Wrestling Coaches Association
(NWCA) All-Star Classic on 1/29/01, the first-ever NWCA appearance by
an AU wrestler ... Hoffer upset Eric Schmeising of Hofstra at the prestigious
event ... posted a 30-3 overall season record including a perfect 13-0
showing in dual competition ... had pins in four straight matches for
the Eagles from 1/27/01 until 2/6/01 ... won the 149 weight class at the
2001 CAA Championships ... named the Tournaments Most Outstanding
Wrestler ... advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in his
collegiate career ... while battling the flu, Hoffer fell in the opening
rounds of the NCAAs.
1999-2000: Gained valuable strength and maturity while redshirting
the 1999-2000 season ... after only two seasons, Hoffer had already accumulated
60 career wins, 15th best all-time at AU.
1998-1999: Went 35-10 and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, the
farthest an AU wrestler has advanced in school history ... placed third
in the 1999 Fila Junior World Team Trials in April in Colorado Springs
... earned some international experience as a member of the 1999 USA Wrestling
team that competed against France and Poland overseas in June ... earned
CAA Wrestler of the Year honors following the season, becoming the first
AU wrestler to earn this honor ... earned the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding
Wrestler award ... scored one of the top upsets of the NCAA Tournament
when he topped All-American and third-seed Oscar Wood of Oregon State,
6-4, in the second round ... just one win away from earning All-America
status ... ranked #18 in the nation at the seasons end by InterMat
... placed in four tournaments including the WVU Open (4th), Las Vegas
Invitational (5th), and the AU Congressional Cup (2nd).
1997-1998: Went 25-14 at 142 pounds ... had one of AUs best
rookie campaigns garnering a third place finish in the CAA Championship
and was third on the team in wins ... also placed in four tournaments
highlighted by a second place finish at the Sunshine Open, fourth at the
Congressional Cup, sixth at the West Virginia Open and second at the Keystone
Classic.
High School: Three-time sectional champion ... won the South Central
Region in the 135 pound weight class ... won two matches in the AAA State
Tournament ... finished 6th as a junior ... finished year with a 36-3
record ... placed second in the Cadet World Team Trials.
