American
Womens Soccer Puts Nine on Patriot League Academic Honor Roll
Eighty-four womens soccer student-athletes earn academic distinction

Honor Roll nominees with a 3.82 GPA.

WASHINGTON
-- The American University womens soccer program was honored by
the Patriot League with nine selections to the Patriot League Womens
Soccer Academic Honor Roll, the fourth-highest number of nominations in
the league. Freshman standout goalkeeper and All-Patriot League Second
Team selection Jen Liese (Rushland,
Pa./Council Rock) led her team with a 3.82 grade-point average in the
fall semester.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must earn a 3.2 grade-point average
in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the seven
League-sponsored fall championship sports. A total of 480 student-athletes,
including 84 womens soccer players, were named to the Leagues
Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 23 with 4.00 GPAs. The Fall Academic
Honor Roll includes the sports of mens and womens cross country,
field hockey, football, mens and womens soccer and volleyball.
Senior co-captain Ashley Flanigan
(Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) was second on the team academically,
earning a 3.77 while majoring in Public Communications, while freshman
Erica Peters (Champaign,
Ill./Champaign Central) earned a 3.74 as an International Studies major.
American womens soccer finished with a 7-7-3 record (4-3-1 Patriot
League) in 2001 and entered the Patriot League Tournament as the No. 2
seed before falling, 2-1, to No. 3 Bucknell in the semifinals.
American University,
which is in its inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League, officially
joined the conference on July 1. The University, founded in 1893, fields
a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 womens sports
and nine for men.
