American Women’s Soccer to Play U.S. Paralympic Soccer Team
Eagles will host scrimmage on Reeves Field this Friday

Mar. 26, 2002

Head coach Michael Brady led the women's soccer program to a 7-7-3 finish in 2001.

WASHINGTON -- The American women’s soccer team will host the U.S. Men’s Paralympic Soccer Team in a scrimmage next Friday, April 5, as the Eagles gear up for the 2002 fall season. The game is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Reeves Field.

The U.S. National Paralympic team competes regularly at the World Championships and the Pan American games, and routinely send players to the World All-Star games held across the world. Currently, the team is working towards sponsorship goals in order to earn a trip to the 2002 World Championship in England this July.

Team members include college graduates, doctors, military veterans and students. Rick Moss serves as the team’s head coach while Phil Rose acts as the assistant and Alistar Young is Executive Director.

The American women’s soccer team earned American University’s first-ever win in the Patriot League on Sept. 19, 2001, at Navy. As a No. 2 seed, the Eagles fell to No. 3 Bucknell in the Patriot League Championship semifinal at the United States Naval Academy.

American University, which is in its inaugural year as a member of the Patriot League, officially joined the conference on July 1. The University, founded in 1893, fields a 19-sport Division I athletics program, featuring 10 women’s sports and nine for men.
