Stats -- September 9, 2001 Washington, D.C. -- Freshman Maha Elnabawi (Herndon, Va./Oakton) notched two goals in the Eagles win over the visiting Charleston Cougars this Sunday at Reeves Field. American played aggressively throughout the contest, keeping the pressure on the Cougar defense for the majority of play. The first goal came at 41:11 into the contest when senior defender Amanda Detterline (Telford, Pa./Souderton) made a cross from right field and Elnabawi connected with the back of the net. The second half opened with a Charleston score by freshman forward Claire Wigfall after a challenge with Eagle keeper Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./ Council Rock). The American offense replied in kind after the Cougar score when Elnabawi again scored, this time on a header after a cross from senior Diane Wooten (Damascus, Md./Middle Tennessee State). Wooten then capped off the scoring for American at 70:33 on a breakaway shot from left field. Freshman keeper Liese had seven saves in 70 minutes of play. The Eagles outshot the Cougars 19-9 and notched 6 corner kicks, compared to only three by Charleston. The Eagles move to 1-1 on the season and will face Mount St. Mary's in two days on Tuesday, Sept. 11 on Reeves Field at 4:00 p.m.
