November 5, 2001 WASHINGTON -- American women's soccer wrapped up the regular season this Sunday with a 2-1 win over league foe Lehigh. The victory, coupled with Navy's 1-0 overtime defeat of Bucknell on Saturday, means that the Eagles will enter the Patriot League Championship this weekend as the No. 2 seed. American will face No. 3 Bucknell in the championship semifinals on Friday, Nov. 9, at 3:30 p.m. in Annapolis, Md. on the campus of the United States Naval Academy. These two teams met for the first time on Sept. 22, when the Eagles shutout the Bison, 2-0, at home to earn their second straight Patriot League victory in 2001. With a win on Friday, American will play the winner of No. 1 Navy/No. 4 Lafayette on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Patriot League Championship. The Eagles defeated Navy, 1-0, in another league shutout victory on Sept. 19 of this year. The only team to defeat American among this year's qualifying teams is No. 4 Lafayette, who defeated the Eagles, 3-2, in an even match on Oct. 6. American is competing in its inaugural Patriot League championship this weekend. The women's soccer team earned the first-ever league victory for American University with its defeat of Navy on Sept. 19, and is looking to become the first Eagles' squad to claim a league title in 2001.
