WASHINGTON
-- Four American University womens soccer players earned All-Patriot
League honors today as the Eagles prepare for the league championship
this weekend. Senior forward Diane
Wootton (Damascus, Md./Middle Tennessee State) was named to the All-League
First Team while senior forward Katie
Moore (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel), senior defender Amanda
Detterline (Telford, Pa./Souderton) and freshman goalkeeper Jen
Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) were named to the All-League Second
Team.
Wootton finished the regular

assists for 18 points. She scored in four consecutive games to open the
2001 season, including the game-winner at Navy on Sept. 19, and earned
the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24. Wootton also
tallied the game-winner in Americans final regular-season game versus
league foe Lehigh as the Eagles defeated the Mountain Hawks, 2-1, and
cemented their hold on the No. 2 seed in the league championship.
Moore had a strong senior
campaign and finished second on the team in goals (6), tied for second
in assists (2) and second in points (14). She netted her first goal of
the season on Oct. 6 as American fell, 3-2, to Lafayette in overtime,
and also had two goals in the Eagles 3-2 loss to Georgetown on Oct.
10.
Detterline provided a
consistent anchor for the American backfield, and always marked the opposing
teams top forward. Her efforts contributed to a strong overall performance
by the Eagles defense, which held eight opponents to two goals or
less this season. She also contributed on offense with two assists, eight
shots and four shots on goal.
Rookie Liese had a stand-out
debut season. After an intital loss to James Madison, Liese and the Eagles
went on a four-game winning streak, including three consecutive shutout
wins. She was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Sept. 24
following wins against Charleston, Navy and Bucknell, in which she had
a combined 27 saves. At the end of the regular season, Liese led the Patriot
League in saves per game (6.31), ranked second in total saves (101), tied
for third in shutouts (7) and tied for fourth in goals against average
(1.48).
The womens soccer team earned American Universitys first-ever
win in the Patriot League on Sept. 19 at Navy. The Eagles enter
the Patriot League Championship as the No. 2 seed and will play No. 3
Bucknell this Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the United States Naval Academy in
