Eagles End in 2-2 Tie with Towson University
Wohl records five saves in net for American

Sept. 8, 2002

Senior Megan Monteith had an assist for AU.

WASHINGTON - Junior Lauren Wohl (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) made five saves including three in one-on-one situations for the American University women's soccer team, which settled for a 2-2 tie with Towson University Sunday afternoon at Reeves Field.

The Eagles now have a 1-2-1 record in the midst of a five-game homestand. They will host Virginia Commonwealth University Tuesday at 4 p.m.

AU sophomore keeper Jen Liese (Rushland, Pa./Council Rock) left the game at the 71st minute with a concussion after attempting to make a diving save on what would be the tying goal by Jesse Whippo from Martha Bielefeld for the Tigers, leaving the door open for Wohl's impressive stand-in routine.

American's Savannah Rennels (Rector, Pa./Latroba Area/Bucknell) was lightning-quick in scoring the first goal of the game just 1:30 after kick-off. The junior, who leads the team with five goals on the year, completed a one-touch pass from freshman Simone Konig (Gartringen/School of Economics in Boblingen) for the 1-0 lead.

The Tigers did not remain behind for long as Annie Hay converted a deflected shot off the post for the score. With three minutes left in the half, AU freshman Marcela Ricupero (Las Violetas, Monteserrin/Academia Cotopaxi) tallied her third goal of the season after senior Megan Monteith (Fredricksburg, Va./Chancellor) posted a shot off the crossbar and to the feet of an oncoming Ricupero.

The two teams were almost even shot-for-shot with American edging out Towson with 14 while the Tigers had a clear advantage in corner kicks by an 8-2 margin.

In net for Towson was junior Yasmin Alter who made eight saves in a complete game effort.

Game Summary
Shots: American 14; Towson 13
Corner Kicks: Towson 8; American 2
