American to Play Maryland in First Round of NCAA’s
First tourney trip for the Eagles

WASHINGTON - The American University women’s soccer team will play the University of Maryland in the first round of the NCAA’s. Maryland is the host for the first two rounds of the tournament. The game is scheduled for 7:30 pm November 15 at Ludwig Field.

American (10-8-2) is one of 11 schools making its first appearance in the tournament. They earned their way into the tourney by virtue of winning the Patriot League Championship last Sunday (November 10). In the championship game AU defeated Colgate 2-1 to earn the title. Junior Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md, Bullis) was the MVP of the tourney.

Maryland is 12-7-1 overall. Despite the location, the two schools have played just four times with the Terrapins owning a 3-0-1 advantage. The last meeting was in 1993 when AU lost by a goal, 1-0.

Penn State and Princeton are the other two teams in the bracket. The winners of the two Friday matches will meet on Sunday.
