American Downed in Double Overtime
Jimenez scores goal and adds assist

Anabel Jimenez had a goal and assist versus Virginia Tech.

September 2, 2003 | Stats

BLACKSBURG, Va. — American University got out of the gate quickly, scoring two goals in the first 6:01 of the game, but that was all the scoring they would do for the next 104 minutes. Eventually, the Eagles lost in double OT when Virginia Tech's Jessica Myers scored her second goal of the game to give the Hokies a 3-2 win.

Anabel Jimenez (Kensington, Md./Bullis) opened the scoring when she grabbed a pass from freshman Christina Gonzales (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) and in the process scored the first goal in the Virginia Tech Soccer Stadium. Less than two minutes later Jimenez found freshman Kristie Fontana (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hallow Hill East) for a goal.

Simone Konig (Gartringen, Germany/School of Economics in Boblingen) took three shots on goal while Fontana finished with two shots.

Freshman Alison Doyle started the first game of her varsity career and faced 26 shots and played extremely well, picking up eight saves.

AU will next play at home against Princeton on Saturday, September 6, at 4:00 p.m.
