Cruises Past George Mason, 6-1, in Women's Tennis
Bovina Leads
Charge Again at First Singles
FAIRFAX, VA -- American University's Irina Bovina won her match at first singles, and the Eagles went on to sweep through the rest of the contested matches, defeating George Mason, 6-1, here on Wednesday afternoon. Bovina defeated Jessica Strickler, 6-3, 6-3, at first singles to start the Eagles' run. Regan Campbell defeated Suxy Ihnat, 6-1, 6-0, at second singles, and Jacqueline Hagen downed Darri Thayaprasat, 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (2), at third singles. Lauren Martin captured the point at fourth singles over Lulu Rodriguez, 6-2, 6-1, and Kristina Georgieva defeated Dinali DeSilva, 6-2, 6-1, at fifth singles. AU defaulted the point at sixth singles due to injury. AU swept through the doubles in quick fashion. Campbell and Lourdes Riusech teamed to down Strickler and Ihnat, 8-3, at first doubles. Martina and Georgieva defeated Thayaprasat and DeSilva, 8-1. Bovina and Hagen dispatched Rodriguez and JoAnna McCardlish, 8-2. American concludes
its 2001 campaign on Friday, April 20, when they host UMBC at 3:00 p.m.
at Reeves Courts. Seniors Irina Bovina and Regan Campbell will be honored
prior to the start of the match. In addition, there will be free food
provided and contests for prizes including a new tennis raquet.
