College Park, Md. -- The American women's tennis team had an impressive opening weekend at the Maryland Invitational. Sophomore Kristina Georgeiva (Sofia, Bugaria/Stefan Karadja) defeated Chloe Chavardes from the University of Maryland (6-4, 3-6, 6-1) to earn the Flight B singles Championship, while sophomore Jacqueline Hagen (Kameula, Hawaii/Hawaii Prepatory) edged Daniela Kaluskova from Syracuse (6-1, ret.) for third place in Flight A singles. Two Eagles met face-to-face in the Flight C consolation match-- senior Kristin Hedger (Kerrville, Tex./Texas A&M C.C.) outdueled teammate Melissa Rausch (Toronto, Ont./Forest Hill Collegiate) for the win, 6-2, 6-1. 2001 Maryland Invitational Day Three Results - September 30, 2001 Flight A Singles 5th and 6th Playoff Flight B Singles
