American Womens Tennis Closes Season With 4-0 Loss to USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif.
- The American University women's tennis team closed out the season
with a 4-0 NCAA loss to the No. 6 ranked University of Southern California.
The Eagles complete the season with a 16-9 overall record, a 3-2 Patriot
League record and the team's second Patriot League title and NCAA automatic
berth.
In doubles, seniors Katarina
Kollarova (Vinicne, Slovakia/Valparaiso) and Kristina
Georgieva (Sofia, Bulgaria/Stefan Karadja ) paired up to play the
No. 6 double pair, falling 8-2 to Luana Magnai and Carine Vermeulen.
In singles, Kollarova faced the No. 77 ranked player in the nation, while
Georgieva faced the No. 15 ranked player, competing for the Eagles in
the No. 1 position. Kollarova fell 6-4, 6-0, while Georgieva fell 6-0,
6-1.
Also facing nationally ranked competition, junior Sasha
Zerkalova (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School) faced No. 46 Anaca Anastasiu
in the No. 3 position. Zerkalova also represented the Eagles in the No.
2 doubles position, playing with freshman Julia
Colarusso (Downington, Pa./Downington High School).
The Eagles close out
a very successful season, winning their second Patriot League title, defeating
Army in the Patriot League tournament 4-2. American also placed four on
the Patriot League All-League team, while Head Coach Carol
Daniels was recognized as the Patriot League Coach of the Year.
