Katie Dougherty

Experience: First Season

Beginning her first year at American University is assistant coach, Katie Dougherty.

A 2002 graduate of the University of Wisconsin in English with a certificate in women's studies, Dougherty has been working as a Junior Developmental Coach at the Western Racquet Club in Elm Grove, Wisc. since graduation. She has also worked with the prestigious Four Star Tennis Academy in Northern, Va., where she had the opportunity to work with nationally ranked junior tennis players in the Greater Washington area.

A four-year starter for the nationally-ranked Wisconsin Badgers, she won the 2002 Most Improved Student-Athlete award and was a member of a four-time ITA Academic All-America Team. She was invited in 2002 by the NCAA organizing committee to participate in the NCAA Youth Education Through Sports Program (YES), which is an annual clinic promoting the importance of education and athletics in young peoples lives.

A former nationally-ranked junior in singles and doubles, she was the 1997 Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Year.

Dougherty will reside in her hometown of Ellicott City, Md.
