Another Solid Performance for American Cross Country
Baclawski, Malpigli First Collegiate Finishers in the Race

Meet Stats | Oct. 13, 2001

COLLEGE PARK, MD.
-- While this day was much different than the previous week, the results were very similar for American cross country. After last week's overcast and windy day, the Eagles ran on a sunny and very calm day Saturday. For the second week in a row, the men's team won the meet, beating Maryland convincingly. The women were second to the host Terps.

Sophomore Jen Baclawski led the way again for the Eagles, finishing as the first collegiate runner and second overall behind American assistant coach Sascha Scott. Baclawski ran a strong race on a difficult course and finished in 18:45.45. Finishing in third place behind Baclawski was junior Samia Akbar. Akbar ran a time of 19:35.85. The third Eagle to cross the line was freshman Whitney McNees in 19:55.82.

Just like the previous race, Heidi Fishpaw, Jess Daniel, and Leah Heinecke-Krumhus finished near each other. Fishpaw was 14th (20:12.24), Daniel was 15th (20:13.82), and Heinecke-Krumhus finished 16th (20:16.79). Freshman Megan Simpson placed 31st in 20:53.08 and junior Erin Hickey was 39th in 21:25.99. Siobhan Uniacke placed 48th in 21:47.47 and Brittany Scott was 67th in 23:33.99.

On the men's side, sophomore Frank Malpigli led the way winning the race in a time of 26:01.02. Malpigli made his move at the three mile mark to pull away from a tightly bunched pack. Like last week, the Eagles took the top three places in the race with junior Sean O'Brien finishing second(26:16.59) and sophomore Matt Seymour finishing third(26:21.95). Running in his first collegiate race, freshman Patrick MacAdie ran very well placing seventh in a time of 26:39.96. Carlos Hunt was right behind MacAdie in eight place (26:40.59).

Chad Young finished strong to take 11th place in 26:59.60. Sean Duffy was 12th in 27:11.35. Jovens Colas placed 16th with a time of 27:26.14. Junior Jose Morales placed 26th in 27:59.49 and was closely followed by freshman Matt Barresi (28th, 28:06.98).

The Maryland Invitaional was an excellent tune-up for the Eagles. This was their last race before their first Patriot League Championships. The meet will be held Oct. 27 at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
