Eagles Cross Country Posts Strong Showing
Second and Third Place Finishes by Men's, Women's Teams

ANNAPOLIS, MD.
-- American cross country had a stong finish at the Navy Invitational held this weekend at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The men's squad ranked second out of six total schools attending the event (Navy, AU, UMBC, Delaware, Maryland, and GMU) with a total time of 2:12:50.5 in the 8K, an average of 26:34.1 per runner. The women's team finished in third place with a team time of 1:40:30.19 in the 5K race, a 20:06.04 individual runner's average.

Senior Frank Malpigli finished first on the AU men's team and 13th overall with a time of 26:08.80, a 5:15 per mile average. Junior Samia Akbar finished first for the AU women and second overall in 19:10.36, a 6:10 mile average. Her sophomore teammate Jen Baclawski finished right behind her in third place overall with a time of 19:15.61.

The Naval Academy men's and women's teams finished atop the school rankings after the meet. The Eagles will next compete in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 22.
