Pack Leads Men's Cross Country to Fourth Place Finish September 28, 2002 | Results
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - American University's men's cross country squad used a spread of five runners in only 17 seconds to finish fourth at the Paul Short Invitational held on the campus of Lehigh University. Frank Malpigli was the first Eagle to cross the line, finishing 13th in 24:59.75. Sophomore Patrick MacAdie was the next AU runner to finish, placing 22nd in 25:12.81. Junior Matt Seymour and senior Sean O'Brien were close behind finishing 25th (25:15.55) and 26th (25:16.10) respectively. Sophomore Sean Duffy closed out the scoring for the Eagles, placing 28th in 25:16.73. American's sixth runner was sophomore Danny Maurer who placed 35th in 25:26.37 to cap AU's impressive one-to-six spread of only 27 seconds. Also competing for the Eagles was freshman Will Knox who placed 102nd in 26:31.58. AU finished fourth in the race with 114 points behind William & Mary (49), Columbia (83) and Princeton (90). The Eagles defeated the fifth place squad, Pennsylvania by 90 points and Penn State by 112 points. Patriot League foes Lehigh and Lafayette finished 16th and 27th, respectively. The Eagles have some time off before returning to action on October 19th at the William & Mary Invitational.
