History 632: History in the Digital Age

In addition to completing the weekly assignments required of undergraduate students enrolled in History 332,  graduate students enrolled in History 632 will complete three additional assignments during the course of the semester:

1.  First, a brief presentation on a historical topic using Power Point and incorporating images, sounds (if possible) and links.

2.  Second, an essay review (complete with links) on the impact of new information technologies on a particular historical problem or area of historical studies.  The audience for the essay should be historians and other students of history. The essay should be prepared in html format, illustrated and with links to sites under review.  For an example of what I am looking for, see my article on Cold War studies in the Journal of Multi-Media History vol.3 (2000). [Depending on the topic, you will probably want to select a much more limited problem: e.g., the origins of the Cold War, the limited test ban treaty, the Iran-Contra controversy, and so on.]

3.  Third, a web site on a particular historical problem or area of historical studies.  Again, your audience should be fellow historians and other students of history.  Your goal here should be to create a site that will satisfy one of the major requirements for the Research Tool in New Information Technology.  For details, click on: http://www.american.edu/academic.depts/cas/hist/infotechtool.htm
