The value of endowed chairs at AU can be seen in the impact of Abdul Aziz Said, the Moham-med Said Farsi Chair of Islamic Peace in the School of International Service. A member of the faculty for 45 years, the Syrian-born professor has enriched the lives of thousands of AU students through his teaching and example.

As distinguished scholars and educators, our faculty has earned national and international attention for groundbreaking accomplishments. They have received prestigious federal and foundation grants, Fulbright and Guggenheim fellowships, MacArthur "genius" grants, Oscars, Emmys, and Pulitzers. Most important, they have taught and inspired tens of thousands of students.

Nothing is more important to the quality of an American University education than the quality of its faculty. AnewAU will increase the number of endowed faculty chairs and professorships, enabling us to attract and honor teacher-scholars who are among the world's finest.

The campaign will provide ongoing support for increased salaries, professional development, research, and other resources to assure that AU scholars remain at the forefront of their fields. These prestigious positions will be established in all schools and colleges, as well as in areas of strategic importance to our educational goals.
