Funding IT project in AUSTRALIA

 

  Venture Capital

  According to a survey done by Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)

  there are about 97 active venture capital managers who managed 123 investment

  vehicles. The 123 investment vehicles had 569 investee companies. Total

  investment by the venture capitalist  was $974 million in 2000 .Investment

  activity can occur at various stages of the establishment and operations of a

  business and include: seed (in business less than 18 months); early (in business

  less than 30 months); expansion; late (new product or product improvement);

  turnaround (financing during times of operational or financial difficulty); and buyout.

  During 1999-2000, investment activity occurred predominantly in the expansion

  stage with a total value of $406 million (42%) followed by the early stage or

  pilot stage with $243 million (25%).

  BITS Incubator

  Building on Information Technology Strength (BITS ) is a Program propelled by

  Federal government .There  are totally 6 incubators in the country. The size

  of investment is from $50,000 to $450,000.

  AUSINDUSTRY

  Innovation Products Grants & Loans - R & D (Research &

  Development) Start Program.
  BUILDING ADDITIONAL RURAL NETWORKS (BARN)

  BARN is providing $70 million over five years (1999-2004) to support

  the development of   new networks and new network services and

  products, with an emphasis on the adoption of innovative solutions

  and leading edge technologies, and strong participation of new

  telecommunications carriers and service providers in project

  implementation

  INTERNET ACCESS FOR REGIONAL AND RURAL

  AUSTRALIA
  The Internet Access Fund is intended to stimulate Internet service

  delivery in regional and  rural Australia in a manner that will enhance

  the commercial, competitive roll-out of these services. The major priority

  for projects supported under this fund will be the provision of untimed

  local call Internet access, or at least the equivalent where traditional

  dial-up access is not feasible, at reasonable price and bandwidth.

  NETWORKING THE NATION

  Networking the Nation is a five year grant-based program providing

  funding for regional, rural and remote communities to identify their

  communications needs, and develop and implement projects that

  meet those needs.

  NEW INDUSTRIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
  The main activity of the NIDP is to provide funding assistance for

  pilot commercialisation’ of new agribusiness products and services.

  RURAL TRANSACTION CENTRES
  The Government has committed up to $70 million over 5 years to

  help rural communities establish their own rural transaction centres

  (RTCs).

  Regional Solutions Programme
  The Regional Solutions Programme is a Federal Government initiative,

  from the Department of Transport and Regional Services, that will

  assist regional and rural communities build their capacity to identify

  and implement development opportunities. Some $90 million will be

  provided over four years to allow communities to undertake projects

  that will lead to economic diversification and strengthen their social

  structures by improving access to and filling gaps in services.

  TELEVISION BLACK SPOTS PROGRAM

  The Tasmanian Innovations Program aims to assist communities

  to fix between 200 and 250 analog television reception black spots.

  The purpose of the program is to increase the number of people

  with access to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC),

  Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) and commercial analog television

  services at a minimum cost to communities.

  Information Technology On Line (ITOL)

  The goal of the ITOL program is to accelerate the national adoption

  of business to business electronic commerce solutions, especially

  by communities of small and medium enterprises. ITOL have

  provided funding for projects in the health and pharmaceutical,

  building and construction, automotive industry and primary industries.
