Most hardware, software and other technology components such as telecommunications equipment is imported from the United States. The recent natural disasters and the country's developing nation status have prevented the infant technology industry from growing more rapidly.
There are major foreign high-tech companies in El Salvador
such as Xerox and Siemen's, however they do not manufacture any components
within the country. Much of the work that Xerox does in El Salvador
relates to the country's infrastructure, such as solar energy systems design
and installation.
