IT Financing

Most financing, although it is minor, comes from the federal government in terms of loans.  Visiting the Government Policies page provides more detail about the governments role in sponsoring IT growth in El Salvador.  The majority of the private banks currently do not offer financing to information and communications technology companies.  This is partially due to the lack of ICT companies within the country and therefore the low commercial need for this type of financing.  Foreign companies usually obtain financing through their home countries banks, such as the United States.

Major foreign investors include: Coastal Technologies (power generating plant), Kimberly Clark de C.A. (paper products factory), Texaco Caribbean, Esso Standard Oil (oil refinery and gasoline service stations), Shell El Salvador (shares oil refinery with Esso and gasoline service stations), Bayer de El Salvador (pharmaceutical plant), Sara Lee Knit Products (textile plant), Xerox de El Salvador, AIG (insurance), and British American Tobacco (cigarette manufacturer).
