Volcano of Izalco

This link is intended to discuss areas of high-tech company clusters similar to that of Silicon Valley in the United States.  Due to El Salvador's developing nature and its physically small size (roughly equivalent to the state of Massachusetts in area), there are currently no high-tech clusters or technology parks within the country.  The capital city of San Salvador is densely overpopulated and the surrounding countryside has been devastated by civil war, earthquakes and most recently Hurricane Mitch in 2000.

There is, however a Free Trade Zone in which the Salvadoran government encourages foreign textile manufacturers to open textile factories and employ local citizens.  The foreign manufacturers are provided with tax incentives for operating their factories in this trade zone.
