Software develpoment in El Salvador is limited to small consulting companies that work with existing software programs and customize them for specific client applications.  Synthesis Consultores Internacionales is one such consulting company, among only a handful that deals in a limited fashion with software "adaption".  As stated earlier, hardware, software and other technology components are imported into El Salvador usually from the United States.

It is expected that in the future, once the country begins to heal from the natural disasters that occurred in 2000 (major earthquakes and hurricane Mitch) that the focus will return to ICT industry development.
