Summary

Korea has an internationally competitive electronics manufacturing industry and is a leading producer of semiconductors for world markets. It has developed leading edge technology in the manufacture of LCD and TFT displays, and is a major manufacturer of mobile phone handsets, PDAs, computers, monitors and related equipment. These products are a significant source of export income.

Since 1996, IT equipment sector has grown 25.8% annually [1]. This outstanding growth is mainly attributable to the export of several product such as PC, semiconductor, CDMA handset and system. In terms of the amount of production in 1999, Korea ranked 7th in telecom equipment, 13th in information equipment and 3rd in electronic component in the world (Reed Electronics Research, 2000. 7). In particular, the world market share of Korean CDMA handset and system in year 2000 reached 53.5% and 6.7%, respectively [1].
