These systems are also known as advanced planning
and scheduling systems. It was originally focused on the manufacturing
shop floor, and used for planning and scheduling. They start with order
demand, and determine how and when the demand can be satisfied. The
modules that make up an SCP system include inventory planning, supply
chain network, manufacturing planning, demand planning, and
available-to-promise. These functions are all integrated in order to maxmise planning efficiencies.
