The WMS provides real-time control over the resources needed to fill the orders generated by the OMS. THE WMS determines the best place to store inventory, the most efficient sequence of picking inventory from the warehouse, as well as determining the best method of packing the inventory for shipment. This can go down to the level of choosing the most efficient carton size. Benefits include shortening order turnaround times, higher inventory accuracy, increased order fill rates, and improved shipment accuracy. These benefits can be quantified, and include productivity increases from 20 to 30% and inventory and shipping accuracy rates that exceed 99%. Most users will also see better utilization of floor space, inventory reductions, fewer data entry errors, and reductions in the amount of inventory lost to shrinkage. [vii]
