About the Author

Mary Edington Rand is completing a Master of Arts degree at American University's School of International Service in International Communication. Her elective courses have been in the Kogod School of Business, where she has focused on information technology and international business development.

Mary became acquainted with the Bahamas at the age of 11, when her sister Carlotta married a Bahamian. Over the years, she has visited often. Mary first wrote about The Bahamas when she was 19 and attending a summer journalism course at the Benedictine University College in Nassau.

Currently, Mary is the Director of Marketing for Gazelles, Inc., a corporate education company that partners with leading business gurus to provide best practices tools to fast-growth, mid-size companies.

Mary has worked in the field of communications for many years as a writer, managing editor, event planner, public relations specialist, and marketing director. She has written on a wide range of topics for The Washington Post, political journals, and association publications. In 1992, she published the Dog Owner's Guide to Washington.
