Source: The Internet Software Consortium Internet Domain Survey, July 2000

The Domain Survey is sponsored by the Internet Software Consortium. It seeks to locate every host on the Internet by searching the Domain Name System. The latest survey was completed in July, 2000.

The Bahamas Network Information Centre (BSNIC) at the College of the Bahamas is responsible for the registration of Internet domain names under the BS (Bahamas) Top-Level Domain. The InterNIC charges $100 to register a new domain name for two years. They do not require applicants to have a physical presence in The Bahamas. Registrants must agree to be bound by all Terms and Conditions, and must accept ICANN’s Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy .

WEB HOSTING

Bahamas On-Line’s Web site has received several awards including "Top 5% of All Web Sites", for its quality of content, user-friendly interface, access reliability, benefit of the site's information to a visitor, and on the overall artistic creativity.

Web Ad Listing packages start at $120 per year on sections including the Business Mall, Real Estate, Places to Stay, Things to Do, Shopping, and other exciting sections.

Bahamas On-Line offers World Wide Web Design Consulting services. Designer consultancy is charged at $150 per hour and generally takes an hour for most projects.

After the physical design of the page has been laid out, Bahamas On-Line’s Development Team takes the design and translates it all into computer programming using HTML 3, PERL and JAVA.

Development is billed at $120 per hour.

The fee for hosting web pages on Bahamas On-Line's server is $100 per month for up to 10MB of drive space. Aditional drive space is available. They offer hosting for Virtual Domains starting at $300 per month for up to 10MB, and can provide domain name (http://www.yourname.com.bs) registration and configuration. Additional options available include Virtual Domain and FTP Access.

Arrangements can be made for very large Web sites to be hosted on a separate dedicated Web site on Bahamas On-Line’s server or a customer’s own server.

Virtual Private Networks for a Secure Wide Area Network

A traditional international 64Kb/s leased circuit from Nassau today is likely to cost in excess of $6,000 per month. By using a Virtual Private Network solution across the Internet, known as tunneling, that cost can be driven down to less than $2,000 per month without any compromise in security. Each facility within the organisation that requires a connection to the network contracts with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that is local to their area, for high speed dedicated connection to the Internet. In The Bahamas, this would simply mean an inexpensive leased line to the network operation centre of SRG's communications division, Bahamas On-Line.

With the installation of tunneling hardware and highly secure data encryption methodology, the Internet then becomes an encrypted Virtual Private Network utilising the Internet as its backbone.

The Bahamaweb is a small organization in Nassau, Bahamas using a super fast server in the United States, thus avoiding communication bottlenecks often experienced in Caribbean countries. The server does not offer dial-up service to users to minimize competion for connection.

The site provide free information and links relative to the Bahamas, its people, culture, news and business and links to web resources for the International Investor. They also offer Web Hosting and Web Page Development for business and civic groups. Advertising space is available with links to a company's home page. They also offer free pages to individual artists and non-profit organization in the Bahamas, supported by sponsors
