Ukraine IT Analysis:
Impacts On The Non-IT Business
As a non-IT business based in Ukraine relying on IT as an enabler, I would give thought to the following ideas to secure the future success of my business in a world where IT drives progress, but in a country where IT is still under significant development:
- I’d evaluate the future financial pay-off of searching for a finding a partner in a developed country (US for example) to merge with, form a legal partnership, or possibly just create an alliance.
- I would, in my set of criteria, look for firms with strong IT knowledge in developing countries. I would use this knowledge to enhance my systems and processes. This would, naturally, include all resources provided by the parent or partner.
- I would look for a firm with multiple subsidiaries that offered multiple product lines that had some type of potential synergy with my product or service. In so doing, I would expect cross-marketing opportunities, greater efficiencies and ultimately profits.
- I would evaluate the advantages of having a Ukrainian presence as a US-owned firm versus a Ukrainian-owned firm, and choose my business position with law and profit in mind.
- I would consider bypassing some local providers, upon careful analysis, in exchange for synergies created with global providers used by the entire merged entity.
- I would follow the progress of satellite and mobile services closely, and continually evaluate these services for “best price, best value” scenarios.
- In terms of labor, I would work closely with the universities to identify talent, and upon hiring, send them to the corporate office (US) for 1-2 years of field-training, then bring them back to contribute to my core business.
