Conference Overview
The Departments of Anthropology of Catholic University and American University will host the 24th Northeast Conference on Andean Archaeology and Ethnohistory. More than 160 academics, museum professionals, and students are expected to convene on the campus of American University to present new research on pre-Inca and Inca societies and on early Colonial arrangements in the Andean world. Joan Gero (AU) and Anita Cook (Catholic U) will serve as local coordinators.

First events will begin at noon on Friday, October 28th, with a lecture by William Conklin in the Smithsonian Natural History Museum’s Baird Auditorium. On Friday afternoon, tours will be available of the Smithsonian’s Retratos exhibition, the Textile Museum's Huari exhibition, and the new National Museum of the American Indian. Friday evening will feature a reception for participants at the International Headquarters of the Society of Woman Geographers. The conference is free and open to the public.
