David Carlini, PhD
Associate Professor

Research Interests:
Molecular evolution, population genetics, & molecular systematics.

Current Research Projects:

  • Functional role of codon bias in the Drosophila alcohol dehydrogenase gene.
  • Phylogeography of cave and surface spring populations of the freshwater amphipod Gammarus minus inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear genes.
  • Molecular evolution of opsin proteins in cave and surface spring populations of the freshwater amphipod Gammarus minus.
  • Genetic divergence of Atlantic and Pacific populations of the red squid Ommastrephes bartramii .
Please click here for a more detailed description of current research projects in my lab.

Teaching:
I teach undergraduate and graduate level courses for biology majors, including Genetics with Laboratory (BIO-356), Molecular Biology (BIO-583), and Bioinformatics and Genomics (BIO-596). I also intermittently teach The Case for Evolution (BIO-220/220G), a general education course for nonmajors. Please click here for course descriptions.
