LaTeX Resources for AU Econ Students

First take a look at the software page's list of LaTeX resources. Once you understand why you should use LaTeX for your thesis or dissertation, consider using the AU-CAS thesis style. This will handle almost all the formatting for you, which is saying more than you can possibly know until you try to meet the formatting guidelines on your own. (Be sure to notice the addendum to the formatting guidelines, which relaxes some longstanding formatting constraints.)

Btw, Alan Cibils put together an economics focused curriculum vita class. Be sure to get the class option file and the test vita.

If you are using Scientific Word, which is a relatively costly but also relatively painless way to begin with LaTeX, see Mackichan Software's instructions for adding a LaTeX package for use with SW/SWP. The example used happens to be for a thesis style.

Keep in mind that you do not have to buy LaTeX: there is plenty of freeware (e.g., http://www.miktex.de">MikTeX for Win9x). Also, since it is rather cheap, you might consider Scientific Notebook, a Windows 95 interface for your LaTeX documents.

lshort2e.pdf is a useful, free introduction to LaTeX.

There is also a useful vita style file.
