Spring Arts Colloquia: Jo Smail

South African-born artist Jo Smail is a professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she has been teaching since 1988. Smail has taught at the University of the Witwatersrand, the Johannesburg College of Art and the Johannesburg Art Foundation. She left South Africa in 1985 before the change in government, and has been living in Baltimore, Maryland, with her family ever since. Smail is represented by Goya Girl Contemporary Art Gallery in Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., and by Axis Gallery in New York.
