Music & Emotion Study (#150) 3/9/2009
This study examines the influence that music has on shaping behavior. On average it takes about 45 min. to complete and counts as 1 extra credit. Participants must be 18 years of age and be proficient in English. Time slots are scheduled in advance on Tuesdays evenings from 6pm- 8:30pm and Saturdays & Sundays from 1pm- 4pm. IMAGERY AND SNAP JUDGMENTS (Study #08AU-05)
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between
imagery and snap judgments and involves engaging in an imagery
exercise and completing various personality questionnaires and
judgment tasks.
Time Commitment: 45-60 minutes
Eligibility: Age 18+, and NOT familiar with Chinese or Japanese.
Compensation: 1 extra credit toward a psychology course (if offered)

HORMONES AND SNAP JUDGMENTS
Purpose & Procedure: The purpose of this study is to examine the
relationship between hormone levels and snap judgments and involves
completing questionnaires and judgment tasks.
Time Commitment: Less than 20 minutes
Eligibility: Female, NOT currently taking contraceptives and NOT
familiar with Chinese or Japanese, age 18+.
Compensation: 0.5 extra credit toward a psychology course (if offered)

PERSONALITY MEASURES (#08AU-01)
This study examines the relationship between different personality
variables and involves completing various tasks and questionnaires on
the computer. The session should take less than 60 minutes.

Participants are needed for a study looking at the effect of mood on the answering of general knowledge questions. The study will take about an hour and you will be given 1 extra credit point for courses (not for tuition credits) that offer extra credit for research participation.

SMOKERS WANTED FOR PAID PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH
The Behavioral Pharmacology & Health Promotion Laboratory at American University is recruiting smokers to participate in a research study examining the effect of cigarette smoking on behavior. Participation involves attending 2 lab visits that will take approximately 90 minutes total. Participants will complete questionnaires and tasks on the computer. PEOPLE WITH AND WITHOUT PHOBIAS WANTED FOR PARTICIPATION IN DISGUST RESEARCH!
The Anxiety Disorders Research Lab is currently recruiting people with and without phobias for a study on disgust sensitivity and concern with contamination. Specifically, we are looking for people who fear spiders or blood/injections/injuries , as well as people who do not fear these stimuli. All participants will first be given a brief clinical interview and will be asked to fill out a series of survey measures. On their second visit, they will be asked to participate in an hour-long experiment. Participants will be given course credit or monetary compensation (.5 credits or $5.00 for each half hour of participation). Earn up to $25.50 for participating in a psychology study!
Participants are needed for a study examining people's reactions to everyday events. Participation will involve an initial hour-long session to complete questionnaires, a daily survey over 14 days (each should take about five minutes), and a final half-hour long session. Participants will receive $5 for the first hour-long session, $0.50 for each of the first five days on which they complete surveys, $1 for each of the next five days on which they complete surveys, and $2 for each of the last four days on which they complete surveys. They will also receive $5 for the final half-hour long session for a total of $25.50. If you are taking part in a psychology class that offers partial course credit in return for participating in psychology studies, you may take an hour of study credit rather than the $5 for the initial hour-long session. Interpersonal Styles and Life Events Study
As a participant, you will be given a set of questionnaires asking about thoughts about yourself, interpersonal styles, recent life events, and mood [you will receive 1 extra credit]. Additionally, your roommate will be asked for his/her perspective about your interpersonal styles and recent life events and he/she will be entered into a lottery in which 4 randomly chosen individuals will receive $50. We are investigating what types of coping strategies undergraduates use to deal with stress. As a participant, you will be asked to complete a set of questionnaires that ask about everyday challenges in your life, and how you typically deal with them. Dieting Behaviors & Beliefs and Parenting Study:
- Female undergraduate participants required
- 18+ years old to participant
- Total participation 30 minutes (1 visit)
- Received 0.5 extra credit research hours or entry into giftcard lottery
I am recruiting female undergraduates, aged 18+ to examine the impact
of mother-daughter relationships on dieting behaviors and body
beliefs. Participation will require a one time appointment (approx. 30
minutes) to fill out some measures regarding dieting behaviors, body
beliefs and parenting. In addition, participants will be weighed and
measured (height).

Activities & Problem Solving

We are recruiting participants for a study of how different activities effect problem-solving. The total participation is up to 1.25 hours. You can receive 1.5 hours of research participation credits for your participating psychology class (please note: this is not course credit, meaning it will not make a 3-credit course a 4-credit course). Plus, all participants can earn chances in a lottery for $100.
Those eligible for the study must be at least 18 years old and be an AU student. Participants also may NOT have formal training in mindfulness or meditation (such as Vipassana meditation, Zen meditation, etc.).
