2008 Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Biennial Review: The U.S. Department of Education Drug-Free Schools and Campuses Regulations require American University to publish a Biennial Review every two years. The Biennial Review references the following attachments.

Higher Education Opportunity Act: Complete text (431 pages) of the first full reauthorization of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (P.L. 105-244), since 1998. After more than five years of consideration, Congress approved the Higher Education Opportunity Act (P.L. 110-315) (“HEOA” or the “Act”) on an overwhelmingly bipartisan basis. The President then signed the Act into law on August 14, 2008. The Act imposes a substantial number of new reporting and disclosure obligations on institutions that participate in Title IV federal student financial aid programs.

Financial Aid: Preferred Lender Lists, Prohibited Inducements and Permissible Activities:
Complete text (42 pages) of final rule issued by the U.S. Department of Education and published in the November 1 Federal Register. Among other items the regulations set forth rules for institutions offering preferred lender lists (Sec. 682.212; p. 62002) and sets forth prohibited activities and inducements, as well as permissible activities, for lenders and guaranty agencies (Sec. 682.401; pp. 62003 - 62004). The regulations are effective July 1, 2008.
